carly wright2Ciffs revealing sedimentary rock inspire the work of Carly Wright. “I believe that the images that I see on my daily walks, give me a vocabulary. I often stop to sketch , or pick up a stone or a piece of bark. These small objects sit on my drawing table for weeks, sometimes years. When I sit down to design new pieces I look to them for inspiration, and try to convey something of what I see in them to others. I am also drawn to architectural symbols such as windows or doors.”

antonio pinedaScrolling through the images of Antonio Pineda’s jewelry, you will notice the strong design aesthetic is derived from the simple repetition of geometric elements.  

“A Taxco native, Pineda was among the most prominent of the many silversmiths to emerge from the mountain mining town beginning in the 1930s. He was the subject of a 2008-09 exhibition at UCLA’s Fowler Museum, “Silver Seduction: The Art of Mexican Modernist Antonio Pineda,” which traced the evolution of his work through the 1970s.”He was certainly one of the major modernist silversmiths in the 1950s, ’60s and certainly into the ’70s,” said Betsy Quick, the Fowler’s director of education and the show’s in-house curator.”

While her internet presence is confined to Pinterest,…what could be better than letting your work tell your story? “I work alone, with silver, gold and gemstones, and only make one of a kind. I make jewellery for the human body, my pieces must be easy to wear, and nice to touch. I want women (or men) to be active, my pieces should accompany them anywhere, it gives my works more life and meaning. Wearability, also durability are aspects in jewellery I very much care about.”

This simple circle bracelet from Bulgari defines a trend that is hot…hot…hot!!! One of the best selling items in a local gallery is a pair of silver earrings. One earring is a rectangle, the other a circle, and each has one word stamped on the surface. If you look at the mechanics of the Bulgari bracelet it is very simple…although the gold brings the price up to $1759. We can do this…but not in gold…I will opt for copper!
