wattsMany of the high end fabric & wallpaper manufacturer’s rely on old homes & estates in Europe for inspiration. In many cases the designs are painstakingly  reproduced in their original scale and color…these are called Documentary Designs. In the same collection there may be newer colorways added but these designs would not be considered a Document. A few of the documentary fabrics and wallpapers are reproduced by the same manufacturers using the same looms or screens as the original…Amazing. Homes in the US are rarely used for documents. They are not old enough!!!

The featured wallpaper is from Watts of Westminster. This is a terrific example of a Documentary Design.Provenance: Document ñ wallpaper: design has been drawn from a fragment found in an elegant town house, Camberwell, South London. Attributed to C F A Voysey, the pattern is a fine example of the tulip detail so typical of the late nineteenth century. Contrary to the Watts normal practise of recreating a design true to its original interpretation, in the Camberwell the subtle characteristic blemishes of age evident on the fragment have been carefully retained. “

eurofaseI promised to move away from bracelets. It was hard…but I succeeded. Wouldn’t this make a great pin? I can see the center with hot fix swarovski crystals.

klumThe LG cell phone ad in the June InStyle stopped me in my tracks. The contrast between the photo of Heidi Klum in black and white and the painted butterflies is certainly striking.

sonrizaI love this quote from the spokesperson for Mystic Paint With energy and warmth, but without the brashness of red or the excitability of yellow, orange stimulates the senses and even the appetite. schumacherI could say the featured item is ‘off the wall’ but since it is to be applied to the wall that is not accurate. Schumacher’s Nest Collection is “Crafted entirely by hand using all natural feathers, these textured wallcoverings offer a sense of luxury and the beauty that can only come from nature. Humanely gathered and arranged by hand on non-woven paper backed panels, wallcoverings in the Nest Collection have been designed in a range of richly layered patterns that feature an array of luminous shades completely derived from nature.”

archesorangeThe Spring collections are starting to arrive. There has been a great deal of excitement about the new fabrics from Schumacher. I don’t know if it is the 6 inches of snow outside, the single digit temperatures, or the gray skies…but this fabric from Trina Turk brings thoughts of a warm summer day. (Could it be because it is tagged for outdoor living?)

conundrumThe definition for Conundrum is: any thing that puzzles. The fabric from Schumacher is anything but puzzling. Love the color…love the design elements. For this design Celerie Kemble, a nationally recognized interior designer, was inspired by a ‘jeweled piece of metal work’. Have fun scrolling through her fabric designs.
