In preparation for a show in South Carolina, my mind is dancing with ring designs. The cityscape rings by Alexandra Bletsas jumped off the screen from a board on Pinterest. “Blestsas points to her father as a particular inspirations. “My dad’s a signwriter”, she explained, “so I’ve always been surrounding by colour and designs. I was influenced by it. The paint, the colour… it’s all a part of me. Sometimes you get stuck for ideas and you think what am I going to do next,” she said, “and then other times you have all these ideas and it can be so overwhelming. Inspiration comes from everywhere and it’s hard to pinpoint where you initially get inspired.”

During the next few weeks, I will be featuring exhibitors from NY NOW, a wholesale marketplace for “home & lifestyle”. I was drawn to Acacia Creations because of their work with artisans in Kenya, a country that faces many challenges due to the political climate that has dramatically impacted their tourist industry. “The mission of Acacia Creations has always been to improve lives in a long-lasting and sustainable way. We go beyond fair trade by creating jobs, providing training, and giving back to the community through our education and healthcare initiatives. We work directly with hundreds of craftsmen and women at our Nairobi studio and across East Africa to improve their skills and product designs.”
I have all of these beads in my ‘stash’ of ‘stuff’. It is time to pull out the memory wire and go to work.

Efva Attling’s ring jumped off the page in the midst of a clutter of items. It was a ‘we can do this’ moment…in polymer!!! Her early life as a member of a rock band influences her work today…words are everything. “Efva Attling is one of the most recognizable fashion icons in Sweden. Working in sterling silver, gold and precious stones, Efva Attling’s jewelry designs are described as “Beauty with a Thought”. Claire Requa describes the lighting designs for her company, Accents, as FUNKTIONAL. Utilizing the acrylic ‘scraps’ from her lighting designs, Claire has created a line of jewelry, aptly named…Clairely.
“What started five years ago as a single lamp shade in polypropylene inspired by classical chandeliers, has grown to become a collection of lamp shades in polypropylene and lighting fixtures in acrylic. The collection of products also include mirrors, cushions, mugs and more. So popular are the products that they have been available in various shops in over 20 countries.
Claire continues to create and develop her ideas, producing ever more new and exciting designs, with varying functions and purposes. The Claire de Lune Chandeliers are flat pack to minimize carbon footprint, and eco-friendly packing materials are used where possible. Even a line of jewellery was created as a side to use the excess acrylic – upcycled jewellery. And so it was that Clairely Jewellery was born.”

Since my mind seems to be jumbled by a variety of topics these days, I seem to be drawn to quiet designs for post features. “Jane Gowans is a Scottish-based contemporary jeweller, on a mission to present everyone with the opportunity to wear accessories they truly love. A passion for contemporary experimentation and traditional craft practice results in simple, stylish pieces that engage male and female audiences alike.”

Vacation is over, but I am still in a Charleston frame of mind…easy, breezy and carefree. I stumbled across an ad in a local paper for Graffito. They do not have a website, but I am certain you will find a world of inspiration on the Graffito Facebook page. Then you will be Doin’ the Charleston.

I’ve seen these ‘springy’ rings from Balenciaga in several fashion magazines…finally found a good photo! Not sure if this is a ‘we can do this’ item or not…still trying to wrap my brain around that. (My brain is a tad tired after the Easter weekend with the whole family under our roof.)
