nancy wordenThe bold jewelry from Nancy Worden is comprised of everyday items and found objects that tell the story of  “life as an American Woman.” Her exploration of materials from modern American culture are intertwined with traditional jewelry design from around the world. “In all of my jewelry pieces, I strive for beauty and comfort. When a woman wears my work, I want it to say, “I’m beautiful, smart, and I won’t be ignored.” I start with what is physically comfortable to wear and add American artifacts: typewriter balls, hair curlers, and ball chain are carefully transformed to say ancient, valuable and unique.”

The latest issue of Ornament arrived while I was away…Alas, my art odyssey is over and I have returned to Columbus. After a quick ‘run through’ the magazine last night I realized there are more dogeared pages than non dogeared. A necklace by Nancy Worden, who uses recycled materials as components for her designs, jumped off of page three.  Take some time working your way through the portfolio…it helped me to think out side of the ‘bottle’.
