Yayoi Kusama’s obsession with polka dots led her to paint them on everything from trees to naked bodies. Marc Jacobs, a long time fan of her work, has designed a collection of clothes, leather goods, and jewelry bearing her trademark psychedelic patterns for Louis Vuitton. It was difficult to select just one photo of her work…so I am including links to Google Images and to Poul Webb’s art blog…enjoy!!!

The August issues of the fashion mags are preparing us for the ‘muted’ season that we call fall. This resin and wood bangle from Elk Accessories will transition from the brights of summer through to the darks of winter. Elk is a husband and wife design team from Australia. Check out the Winter Jewelry collection for simple repetitive shapes.

I will never obsess over my frizzy hair again. In the HUGE spring fashion issue of InStyle there is an ad by Marc by Marc Jacobs featuring a model with MY hair. I am FINALLY in style…it certainly took long enough!!!
I know this is off my typical topic…but I could not resist.

I recently purchased 500 Plastic Jewelry Designs…a visual feast. In the polymer ‘clay’ world there has been much debate about terminology. But let’s face facts, it is hard to find a more versatile material than plastic.
Madonna’s stylist, Maripol, and Marc Jacobs have teamed up to create a colorful collection of rubber bracelets, fringe necklaces, and neon printed tees. And this time, the price is right…$4 to $35!!!

I may have escaped Ohio in time to avoid back to back snowstorms, but it is February and spring still seems so very far away. The cuff bracelets from Marc Jacobs and the necklace from Tory Burch were in an article about St. Tropez style. St. Tropez conjures up images of sun drenched beaches and alfresco cafes.
Scents & Senses

The packaging of a fragrance is a very sophisticated art. The visual appeal of the bottle is what attracts the customer…like a bee to a flower. An earlier post featured a beautiful bottle by Marc Jacobs. That bottle was colorful and playful. The Natori fragrance drew my interest because of the simple shape and the ‘midnight’ purple color of the bottle.
Alas, my favorite fragrance doesn’t come in an interesting bottle. Diorissimo was created in 1956…the heart of the mid-century modern era. The bottle has the no muss-no fuss simplicity of that age.

My heart skipped a few beats when I saw the cap for the Lola perfume bottle from Marc Jacobs. Love the shape. Love the colors. Love the design. And…we can do this!!! This design would make a beautiful pin.

Still working my way through the October Elle. Another trend report “Child’s Play“ caught my attention. Be sure to check out the photos at the bottom of the page. They will bring a smile to your day. The dress is from Jeremy Scott for Adidas Originals. How Clever!!!
Of course I had to add the shoes by Marc Jacobs. A recent book by Rona Salvas Weltman has a technique for writing on polymer. I have to try this…maybe a Zentangle.
Pink & Green…Here Forever!!!

Marc Jacobs is featuring pink & green in his fall 2009 collection. I tend to think of that as a spring/summer combination. Since magenta is my favorite color, I’ll look forward to working this combination into something for the winter. If you watch the runway show you will notice that bright colors are strong this winter. Maybe winter won’t seem so long if we break up our blacks and browns with pinks, yellows, greens & blues.
I hoped to feature the scarf from the August InStyle…but I could not find a good photo. This ‘slice’ and a photo from the runway show will have to suffice.
