Peter Pilotto is one of the featured designers in the latest WSJ Magazine. My initial search was for a dress that was influenced by ‘oceanic blues and opalescent airiness’. On the way,  I discovered muted tonal ikats  and screaming pops of color. The video is a little over 8 minutes and worth…’every minute’!!!

My heart felt like it was skipping beats while I toured the web site of Madeline Weinrib. Her ads in Veranda have always stopped my page turning. LOVE THEM!!! There is nothing ornate or complicated about the designs…just simple repetitions. The color palates are equally simple…four colors at most.

I was not familiar with the ancient textile pattern, Ikat, until I started working with polymer. (We will not discuss my first attempt at an Ikat cane.)

In the last few years Ikat has become a strong motif for interior design and the spring and summer 2010 runway fashions from Gucci have moved it to clothing.

The May Elle Decor has a colorful trend alert entitled…IKAT…how original!!! The slideshow features fourteen beautiful Ikat designs and links.  The multicolor Ikat designs are striking, but I think I prefer the white and bright combination best.

The Ikat pattern is a polymer classic. Dries Van Noten’s Spring 2010 collection has focused on Ikat patterns for inspiration. If you scroll through the whole collection you will find more than Ikat for inspiration. The color combinations and simple lines are inspiring me to take up sewing again.

Be sure to note the jewelry…simple yet striking.

The Elle Trend Report entitled Salt and Pepper was a full page of design inspiration. Several days ago a post featured Ikat pattern fabric. The dress featured today is from Oscar de la Renta. What a terrific cane pattern!!!

One of my favorite designs on the page is the ‘zig-zag’ purse from Emilio Pucci. Love the accent design element in a larger scale.

I couldn’t resist adding a little ‘bling’ to the page. The earrings are from Jacob & Co. This is an earring design that I have been pondering this winter…sans diamonds of course.

The Spring 2010 Gucci collection features Ikat pattern fabric. This timeless design element is also a favorite of the polymer world. I love the color combination of the the featured photo. Orange seems to be the ‘hot’ color for Spring. Later this week we’ll see some very ‘interesting’ orange designs.

Even though I’m in South Carolina we are setting cold temperature records this week. The pink and white ikat makes me think of warm summer days. Spring arrives in February in South Carolina…only 25 more days.

brunschwig In a recent Chelsea House Blog post I featured a Brunschwig & Fils fabric, the cotton/linen Bayadere Ikat print. This fabric was featured in Elle Decor. Well, Brunschwig has done it again. In the August Town & Country, a design trend editorial…Ottoman Rules…features Brunschwig’s Bayadere in a different colorway. The article is a visual feast of Turkish-inspired design…and as usual Brunschwig Rules.

Sorry about the ‘fuzzy’ photo. Click on the Bayadere link for photos with better resolution.
