I am embarrassed to say, I had to look up the meaning of FAUX BOIS…false wood. According to Elle Decor…it is suddenly hip and showing up in glamourous new guises and in a range of unlikely colors…like this indigo FAUX BOIS from Duralee. Ancient & Exotic ~ Ikat

I was not familiar with the ancient textile pattern, Ikat, until I started working with polymer. (We will not discuss my first attempt at an Ikat cane.)
In the last few years Ikat has become a strong motif for interior design and the spring and summer 2010 runway fashions from Gucci have moved it to clothing.
The May Elle Decor has a colorful trend alert entitled…IKAT…how original!!! The slideshow features fourteen beautiful Ikat designs and links. The multicolor Ikat designs are striking, but I think I prefer the white and bright combination best.
Conversation Starter or Stopper?

One of the tricks of the design trade is to create conversation seating. (Sectional sofas are a good example.) The Peacock chair by Dror Benshetrit for Cappellini would either start conversation or leave your speechless. Since the price tag is $6406 for one, I think a sectional is closer to my budget.
I love the idea that Dror Benshetrit designed a line for Target.

I recently received a postcard from an outdoor furniture company…BarlowTyrie. The compostion, color combinations and the classic design of the chair combine to make a very strong visual image.
The home page scrolls through a series of additional strong visual images that make the impression…LESS IS MORE.

The Cocofeather Hassock from Palecek is a great item to bring the week to an end with a smile. It reminds me of one of the Muppets!!!
The Palecek site isn’t open to the public but you can scroll through several pages by clicking on the next option in each category.
A New Classic Color Combination

One of the exciting facets of visiting the furniture market each spring and fall is the ‘hot’ color of the market. During the last 8 markets we have seen a color combination that has moved from trend to classic…chocolate brown and aqua. The color specialists have tweaked the color from season to season but the combination remains the same. The coordinates from Surya highlight why this new classic has ‘legs’.
The coordinates page features some of the chocolate brown and aqua tweaks. This is also a good source for other color combinations that you may like to work into your designs.
BTW…the hot color of the fall market was HOT…a vivid red that seemed to glow with heat.

While exploring a traditional folk art site I followed the furniture link. D.R. Coble & Company’s web site is a feast for the eyes. There is a great deal of painted furniture coming from Asia today…but nothing close to the clarity of design from D.R. Coble. These images are from the Gallery of Past Works. Have fun exploring!!!
