I am embarrassed to say, I had to look up the meaning of FAUX BOIS…false wood. According to Elle Decor…it is suddenly hip and showing up in glamourous new guises and in a range of unlikely colors…like this indigo FAUX BOIS from Duralee. Ancient & Exotic ~ Ikat
Posted in Design, fabric, fashion, tagged brunschwig & fils, color, Design, duralee, fabric, fashion, furniture, ikat, interior design, laurie prophater, ornamental elements, polymer clay on May 17, 2010| 2 Comments »
I was not familiar with the ancient textile pattern, Ikat, until I started working with polymer. (We will not discuss my first attempt at an Ikat cane.)
In the last few years Ikat has become a strong motif for interior design and the spring and summer 2010 runway fashions from Gucci have moved it to clothing.
The May Elle Decor has a colorful trend alert entitled…IKAT…how original!!! The slideshow features fourteen beautiful Ikat designs and links. The multicolor Ikat designs are striking, but I think I prefer the white and bright combination best.

The new fabrics are flooding into the showroom. Thomas Paul’s second print collection for Duralee is a visual feast. I was intrigued by Thomas Paul. Who is he and what else does he design? Well…I wasn’t disappointed with my search. The file is large but be sure to download the 2009-2010 catalog. It is 61 pages of design inspiration, color combinations, beautiful photographs and a smattering of whimsy.

I know, you have heard that phrase a million times. Recently, we used it for lime and aqua. While those colors have transcended trend they are not as iconic as black. But…have you noticed how much brown you see in fashion and interiors today? This ad from Duralee showcases the richness of brown. I find this room to be very serene. In the world swirling around us today, doesn’t serene sound wonderful?
The Clodagh Touch

I first saw a Clodagh design several years ago. I was immediately drawn to the simplicity of the design elements. Even in its simplicity the design conveyed strength. The November/December issue of of Veranda has a feature on Clodagh. Her design philosophy focuses on the 4C’s: contemplate, cleanse, clarify & create.
My daughter’s career has taken her to spas all over the world. Recently, we visited a spa in South Carolina that was designed by Clodagh. Melissa said it was the most restful and beautiful spa she has ever seen.
The featured fabric is from the Duralee Global Passages collection designed by Clodagh. There is an interesting video describing the inspiration behind the fabrics. Be sure to notice Clodagh’s bangle bracelets.

I don’t know about you…but I’m ready for Spring. I hope mother nature is listening. This colorful pattern from Duralee is the answer for spring fever. Wouldn’t the pink/orange/purple flower on the right make a terrific cane. It reminds me of a Marla Frankenburg class I took several years ago.
