Matthew Campbell Laurenza’s jewelry makes a bold statement. “When it comes to inspiration, Matthew is quick to cite a number of different things that keep his mind racing. One key influence is his family’s eclectic collection of antiques and artwork. “Each member of my family collects art, so I have always been exposed to a variety of pieces from different cultures and time periods. The diverse exposure to art and antiques range from paintings of the Renaissance era to furniture from the American Arts and Crafts movement,” says Matthew.” His collection of rings reminds me of Klew’s drum beads with a smash of Swarovski.

I love large scale public art with a sense of humor. From January until May next year Park Avenue in Manhattan will be abloom with roses by Will Ryman. The ‘plants’ will be up to 25 feet high and the roses will constructed from stainless steel, fiberglass resin, automotive paint and brass. The installation is designed to give viewers a ‘bug’s-eye-view’ of the flowers. With the installation starting in January we should see the roses blooming through the snow. What fun!!!

Mid-Century Modern continues to grow in popularity. The Fall High Point Furniture Market was dominated by clean contemporary furniture and accessories. In the 1960’s, two costume jewelers launched a line of glamorous sculptural ornaments that is still exciting decorators and collectors alike. Some of the original C. Jere designs are being reproduced by Jonathan Alder and Artisan House.

I found the Raindrop Mirror at 1stdibs.com. My mind is already spinning with ideas for my metals class.

It is gray season in Ohio. That may be why this bright and cheery necklace from Pippa Small caught my eye. The web sites’ home page will start your day with a smile. I love the rough nature of the stones she uses in her designs. We seem to be moving from refined and elegant to rough and chunky.

Safe travels to everyone on the road for
Thanksgiving. We are staying close to home this year. Since the idea of preparing a turkey dinner is a ‘little’ overwhelming this year, we may do Chinese carryout. Turkey can wait for another day!!!

After multiple dead ends in a search for a Robert Cavalli clutch photo I stumbled across New Arrivals on the Neiman Marcus site. The jewelry page was a great detour. Stephen Dweck’s amber and jasper necklace was my first stop. Click on the view all to see the whole neighborhood. (Sorry the photo is so small. The zoom on the Nieman Marcus site will allow you to see each piece ‘Up Close & Personal’.)

It took a great deal of time to find a photo to feature for AV Max. The bangle page alone was worth the time and effort. After you drool over the bangles jump over to necklaces to see the agates…great shapes and love the repetition.

I have an idea for a cloth bracelet. It was interesting to see the closure AV Max uses…a simple loop and button.

Calling Melanie West!!! The Blue Ring Octopus reminds me of one of the canes Melanie West creates for her Bio Bangles. The octopus inspired Parsons School of Fashion graduate Aimee Kestenberg to create this amazing purse. The purse is encrusted with 10 different colored Swarovski crystals and won an award for the best use of crystalized Swarovski elements.

Kirna Zabete is a SoHo shop that features high-high end designers to more moderate price collections. This is a collaborative between two college sorority sisters who were voted ‘best dressed’ in their class at the University of Virgina.

I love the ‘bubble’ rings from Tre. But, you have the see the fabulous necklaces from Lizzie Fortunato Jewels. The ‘Frivolous Tonight’ has the artistic side of my brain spinning.

We need to break out the extruder again. (Actually, I need to take mine out of the box!!!) These bracelets from Covet could easily be extruded. Add a few hot fix Swarovski’s and we are in business. Since they retail for $219 we can take the savings ‘to the bank’.

Last August a post featured a gold cuff bracelet from Miriam Haskell. If you follow the link you will see layers of gold petals accented by pearls. Today’s post is simpler but just as striking. I think it may be extruder time again. Imagine wrapping an armature with extruded color and then accenting the ends with crystals or pearls. I think we can do this!!!
