I was not familiar with the ancient textile pattern, Ikat, until I started working with polymer. (We will not discuss my first attempt at an Ikat cane.)

In the last few years Ikat has become a strong motif for interior design and the spring and summer 2010 runway fashions from Gucci have moved it to clothing.

The May Elle Decor has a colorful trend alert entitled…IKAT…how original!!! The slideshow features fourteen beautiful Ikat designs and links.  The multicolor Ikat designs are striking, but I think I prefer the white and bright combination best.

brunschwig In a recent Chelsea House Blog post I featured a Brunschwig & Fils fabric, the cotton/linen Bayadere Ikat print. This fabric was featured in Elle Decor. Well, Brunschwig has done it again. In the August Town & Country, a design trend editorial…Ottoman Rules…features Brunschwig’s Bayadere in a different colorway. The article is a visual feast of Turkish-inspired design…and as usual Brunschwig Rules.

kirkbrummelI seem to be focusing on color. It may be the fact that the temp is 60+ degrees; I purchased bulbs for the garden; and my husband and I rode bicycles this weekend. Could it be that spring is just around the corner?

This wonderful combination of plum & scarlet is from Kirk Brummel. Kirk Brummel fabrics are distributed by Brunschwig & Fils…a century old European fabric house that is now located in the US. For a history of fabric and design spend some time on the Brunschwig site. “Nobody does it better”

The Kirk Brummel spring 2009 has some interesting color combinations.
