bauble barAs you read this I will be attending ‘art camp’…an annual get away…that is actually a GET AWAY…limited electronic communication with the addition of wine and chocolate. Even though I’ve strayed to metal in the last few years, my mind is still processing ideas for ‘interesting’ polymer designs. When I stumbled across this necklace from BaubleBar I looked at the links very carefully. We can do this…there is a small slit disguised in the faux malachite pattern that allows you to link the chains.

Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband of MANY years. He knows how important art camp is to my creative soul and encourages me to attend each year…even though many years it overlaps with our anniversary. But…it actually takes him off the hook for a gift each year;)

efva-afflingEfva Attling’s ring jumped off the page in the midst of a clutter of items. It was a ‘we can do this’ moment…in polymer!!!  Her early life as a member of a rock band influences her work today…words are everything. “Efva Attling is one of the most recognizable fashion icons in Sweden. Working in sterling silver, gold and precious stones, Efva Attling’s jewelry designs are described as “Beauty with a Thought”. She specializes in playing with words and expressions, adding an emotional dimension to her jewelry designs. Smooth lines and organic shapes portray a contemporary feel, yet there are also classic elements that makes her jewelry very wearable.”

AquaCannon_webPattiy Torno is a multifaceted artist. ‘I began sewing in 1965. In my family, learning to sew was no surprise. In 1974, my last year in high school, I decided to become a fashion designer, as it was the only career I could think of, that would allow me to earn a living having something to do with what I love the most… sewing. I started quilting in 1983 right after I closed my first design company in NYC. I moved to Asheville in 1984 and opened Tornado Clothing Company. In 1989, I bought what is now Curve Studios. By 1995 I had closed Tornado and started quilting full time. After 10 years away, in 2002 i returned to Asheville to help found the River Arts District and realize my vision for CURVE studios & garden.’

Pattiy is now working on a body of work she calls ‘photopiercings‘. ‘In the spirit of her quilts but turned towards her photography, the new piecings are digital archival photographs, cut up and re-assembled, pva glued to a plywood box substrate that has been colored with inks and then the whole shebang gets a lacquer finish.’ AquaCannon_web

I am a lucky mother who’s daughter chose to live in Asheville 15 years ago. It is a wonderful place to visit and with some luck…we may live there on a part-time basis in the future. (I doubt that my son-in-law bargained for that)

jean dubuffetDescending upon Switzerland this month are the world’s top gallerists, collectors, museum directors, and curators for the annual Art Basel show in Europe. The featured artwork by Jean Dubuffet would be an interesting collage of colorful canes.

Posts will be late and short for the next few days…hopefully, life will calm down next week.

versaceVersace is one of the designers that always makes you stop in your tracks…fascinating, edgy, and at times, a little perverse. The fringe choker is another one of those designs that inspires you to GO FOR IT…PULL OUT ALL OF THE STOPS. It is rather freeing, isn’t it?????

BTW…sorry for the delay in this post. We spent the weekend in Nebraska at a high school reunion…I won’t share the # though!!!

clairelyClaire Requa describes the lighting designs for her company, Accents, as FUNKTIONAL. Utilizing the acrylic ‘scraps’ from her lighting designs, Claire has created a line of jewelry, aptly named…Clairely.

“What started five years ago as a single lamp shade in polypropylene inspired by classical chandeliers, has grown to become a collection of lamp shades in polypropylene and lighting fixtures in acrylic. The collection of products also include mirrors, cushions, mugs and more. So popular are the products that they have been available in various shops in over 20 countries.

Claire continues to create and develop her ideas, producing ever more new and exciting designs, with varying functions and purposes. The Claire de Lune Chandeliers are flat pack to minimize carbon footprint, and eco-friendly packing materials are used where possible. Even a line of jewellery was created as a side to use the excess acrylic – upcycled jewellery. And so it was that Clairely Jewellery was born.”

lynn-banI haven’t worked out the engineering of this cuff from Lynn Ban in polymer, but I see polymer replacing the ‘rumpled’ metal with fabric as the insert. HMMMMM!!! Lynn Ban’s website is members only…try the Google images for more inspiration from this ‘edgy’ artist.

chanel-redThis ‘sweet’ little ring from Chanel is definitely out of my price range. (When it states ‘price upon request’…that is a given.) But…this design can be translated into polymer, metal…and a myriad of other materials. I would love to see what you can do with the design. Send them to me for a future posting.

Again…thank you to Netpage for making this post sooooooooo easy!!!

uno de 50Vacation is over, but I am still in a Charleston frame of mind…easy, breezy and carefree. I stumbled across an ad in a local paper for Graffito. They do not have a website, but I am certain you will find a world of inspiration on the Graffito Facebook page. Then you will be Doin’ the Charleston.
