Renee Ugazio uses rather unusual materials in the designs of her jewelry. “In Making Headlines, the words from donated rubber wristbands were cut out and made available to people at various social, professional and arts events to rebuild into a more personal rhetoric. Through a commodity in which one slogan fits all, this project aims to use the vocabulary of hope (charity) and desire (marketing) to build personal statements that reflect individual ideas, identities and desires. Making Headlines aims to create a community through common experience whilst allowing individual identity, and exchange with others participating in the project, to become the binding agent for community transcending the culture of one slogan fits all.”

I think it’s a great idea and a cute look too.
I am always attracted to ‘re-purposing’ materials and giving them a new life. The copper I work with comes from the metal salvage yard. There are a few dings and dents…but that gives the new piece ‘character’…http://whatareyouworkingonthisweek.com/
