After World War II thousands of immigrants from the West Indies moved to Great Britain to help rebuild the cities. In the late 50’s, Claudia Jones, who founded Britain’s first black newspaper, started what was to become the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival. The carnival is a two day street fair with colorful costumes and parades celebrating the West Indian culture.
