The laundry hampers from Swahili-Imports are woven by Senegalese women from elephant grass and colorful strips of plastic used in prayer mats and rugs. I love the pattern on the hampers…another great cane. Drill down through the site and you will find inspiration galore. I’m thinking of ordering the recycled flip flop necklace…TOO CLEVER!!!

Recycled flip flop? Who would have thought! (hm-m-m-m- translated into a PC version??? well it WOULD lose the postive aspects of the recycling, but still…. ).
I love the idea of supporting local African artisans/crafters and the work is amazing. I am especially drawn to the pottery. Thanks for sharing this inspiration!
You are correct…the design would make great pc beads!!!
We traveled to Africa 12 years ago. The recycling of all materials made a huge impression. In a continent of abundant natural resources but limited supplies absolutely NOTHING is discarded. Everything is re-purposed.
Fabulous colors and design. A visual feast!
